About the Role We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Registered Nurse to join a  Community Mental Health Services This role sits within a supportive multidisciplinary team and provides high-quality, recovery-oriented mental health care to adults experiencing acute and ongoing mental health challenges.

You will deliver comprehensive clinical assessment, treatment and care planning within a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive framework, supporting consumers, families and carers throughout their recovery journey across community and bed-based settings.

This position reports clinically to the Clinical Lead and operationally to the Site Team Manager and operates across a 7-day rotating roster, including afternoon shifts.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care
  • Conduct urgent and routine mental health assessments in line with the National Mental Health Triage Scale
  • Deliver evidence-based, holistic mental health interventions (pharmacological and therapeutic)
  • Work within a recovery-based, consumer-centred model of care
  • Collaborate with consumers, carers, families and the multidisciplinary team on care planning and safety planning
  • Provide psychoeducation and medication-related education as required
  • Monitor and support consumers’ physical and mental health needs
  • Deliver individual, group and family-based interventions
  • Coordinate referrals and liaise with community organisations
  • Participate in regular clinical reviews, discharge planning and clinical supervision
  • Maintain accurate, timely and compliant clinical documents 

Professional Practice
  • Uphold organisational values, policies and professional standards
  • Maintain mandatory training, professional development and immunisation requirements
  • Actively contribute to a positive safety and risk culture
  • Support inclusive, culturally safe and high-quality patient care
  • Registered Nurse with post-graduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in a mental health setting
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022
  • National Mental Health Standards & NSQHS Standards
  • Sound clinical assessment and therapeutic skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice
  • Current  Driver’s Licence
  • Competency with clinical IT systems

Desirable
  • Experience with MHA assessment orders and variations
  • Knowledge of family violence frameworks (FVISS, CISS, MARAM)
  • Awareness of the Royal Commission into Mental Health reforms
  • Experience in AOD, guardianship or complex presentations
