Mental Health Call Centre Triage Clinicians (24/7 Service) Location:  Sydney CBD / Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-time / Locum

About the Role We are seeking a number of experienced and compassionate Mental Health Triage Call Handlers to join a new program starting on11th May. In this critical frontline role, you will provide timely, high-quality mental health triage, risk assessment, and crisis intervention via telephone.

You will be responsible for delivering trauma-informed, person-centred care while supporting individuals in distress, This role plays a vital part in ensuring safe, effective pathways to care and support across the mental health system.

Who We’re Looking For We welcome applications from clinicians with one of the following professional backgrounds:

  • Psychologists with current full registration (AHPRA)
  • Credentialed Mental Health Nurses  (AHPRA)
  • Mental Health Nurses with a recognised specialist qualification  (AHPRA)
  • Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AHPRA)
  • Occupational Therapists with mental health experience (AHPRA)
All applicants must hold current full registration/accreditation with their relevant professional governing body.

Essential Requirements To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate:

  • Minimum 3 years full-time equivalent experience in an acute mental health setting, including initial assessment
  • Strong clinical capability in:
    • Trauma-informed care
    • Crisis intervention and de-escalation
    • Mental health triage and comprehensive assessment
    • Risk formulation and care planning
    • Brief therapeutic interventions
    • Safe referral and discharge planning
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to support families and carers
  • Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive practice
  • Knowledge of the NSW Mental Health Act (2007)
  • Compliance with:
    • Professional practice standards
    • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements
    • Supervision requirements for your discipline
  • Sound computer literacy and ability to work across multiple systems
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health triage and risk assessments via phone
  • Provide immediate crisis support and brief interventions
  • Develop initial clinical impressions and care plans
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals to internal and external services
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
