Registered Nurse - SCN/NICU 

We are seeking experienced and competent Registered Nurses - Special Care Nursery (SCN)/Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

Core Competencies (SCN & NICU)
  • Neonatal assessment and monitoring (vital signs, pain, neurological and respiratory status)
  • Family-centered care and communication
  • Infection control and aseptic technique
  • Accurate documentation and clinical handover (ISBAR or equivalent)
Special Care Nursery (SCN) Skills
  • Feeding support: breastfeeding, bottle, and nasogastric tube feeding
  • Thermoregulation
  • Basic respiratory support: low-flow oxygen, apnea monitoring
  • Developmental care: positioning, kangaroo care, sensory environment management

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Skills
  • Advanced respiratory support: CPAP, high-flow, mechanical ventilation
  • IV therapy: peripheral and central line care, TPN, IV medications
  • Critical monitoring: blood gases, seizure recognition, cardiorespiratory monitoring
  • Emergency response: neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, code blue procedures
Required Certifications
  • Neonatal Resuscitation
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
Additional Expectations
  • Minimum 12 months recent experience in SCN or NICU
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and clinical excellence
The Maternity Unit, Launceston General Hospital:
  • The Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is the major referral hospital in Northern Tasmania.
  • As a Registered Midwife you will be part of the team that delivers approximately 1,600 new born babies each year. With a 6 bed Birth Suite, 29  bed Maternity Unit and 9 bed Special Care Unit your work will be fast paced and very rewarding.
  • You will have the opportunity to work in various models of midwifery care including ante-natal, birth and post-natal including community based post-natal care, Midwifery Group Practice and Team midwifery.

Accommodation: $450 accommodation allowance - NO HOSPITAL ACCOM AVAILABLE 

R equirements: 8-hour break agreement.
FN pay cycle

Travel: Based on weeks worked, E.G 4 weeks = $400, 6 weeks = $600
