An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Scrub/Scout Registered Nurse to support theatre and acute services in Weipa. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe surgical coverage, including on-call support for maternity-related theatre requirements.

About the Role This position is primarily focused on providing on-call theatre services supporting birthing and emergency surgical care, alongside a strong requirement to work within the acute ward for a significant portion of the contract.

You will join a supportive rural health team where flexibility, broad clinical skills, and strong theatre experience are essential to service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Scrub/Scout nursing support across theatre procedures
  • Participate in on-call theatre roster, including urgent obstetric/birthing support
  • Work across the acute ward setting as required
  • Assist in maintaining safe perioperative patient care pathways
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in emergency and surgical presentations
  • Support continuity of care across theatre, ward, and emergency services
Essential Criteria
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Scrub/Scout or Anaesthetics nursing
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrated competence in perioperative nursing practice
  • Ability to work independently in a rural or remote setting
Highly Desirable
  • Previous ward and/or Emergency Department (ED) experience
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) and/or Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal First Responder qualification
  • MEC/REC (Medical Emergency Care / Remote Emergency Care) training
